The
innovative movers and shakers

The July 2004 launch of Digital Harbour’s Innovation
Building was good evidence that Comtechport means business.
Setting the tone for development stages to come, the official
launch drew a crowd of the country’s high profile IT, TeleCom,
business and political leaders.
The Prime Minister, the Hon. John Howard MP, and Digital Harbour
Chairman Leon Kempler OAM, assembled to detail the Federal
Government’s $22.5 million contribution to this particular phase of
the development.
By the time he officially launched the Innovation Building, the
Prime Minister’s observation that Digital Harbour “will make a
massive contribution to the future growth and vitality, not only of
Melbourne but of our entire nation” had already begun to take
shape.
Fully tenanted even before its launch, the four-level, 5800 square
metre Innovation Building now enjoys a mixed occupancy that
includes leading edge start-up companies with globally-relevant IT
organisations.
WebAlive, for example, is a global innovation agency specialising
in what is a world first product – a complete website and email
management planning and deployment system, which includes
e-commerce and management of unlimited content.
The company is now successfully exporting their Web software and
hosting solution for business throughout the Middle East, the UK,
Canada and has just signed master distribution agreements for
Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Managing Director, David Daniel, sees Digital Harbour as playing a
significant role in the business’ recent triumphs.
“There is no doubt that the networks and contacts that the precinct
provides us with have already been invaluable in assisting with our
growth,” explains Daniel.
News during the launch, that the Telstra Technology Innovation
Program (TTIP) had been confirmed as the anchor tenant, further
buoyed enthusiasm and expectation for the overall development. This
also illustrated the very essence of Digital Harbour’s intention to
provide a new business culture where ‘open innovation’ breaks the
boundaries between corporate TeleCom giants and impressive IT SMEs.
